Learning Programme

•  Development of literacy and numeracy skills
•  Irish
•  An additional foreign language
•  Music and movement
•  Psychomotor development and physical education
•  Creative play
•  Character formation and social development
•  Stimulating early learning activities

This last element is a special feature of the Hill House Early Learning Programme, and is a particularly effective ‘exercise’ for the developing brain. The children are offered educational ‘bits’ of information and introductions to new experiences or concepts. For example, flashcards of great works of art may be shown to the children as the teacher recites their titles. These activities reinforce previous learning, stimulate interest in learning more, and exercise the memory and the ability to handle concepts.

Early literacy skills are enhanced through the use of the Spalding Method of synthetic phonics. This tried and tested method gives children a powerful tool as they discover the exciting world of reading and writing. Key skills are presented in a systematic and accessible way which is suited to the child’s age and development.
